Tanatorio Sta. María de la Estrella

This project is located in an industrial area of Coria del Río, utilizing a pre-existing building with notable industrial heritage value.

The program is structured around a spacious lobby, which serves as the main distribution area leading to various mourning rooms and an administrative zone on an upper level.

One of the key design challenges was the lighting strategy for the mourning rooms, aimed at creating a calm and intimate atmosphere. To achieve this, carefully positioned windows facing a preliminary courtyard and a slatted ceiling allow for soft, indirect light.

Another essential requirement was the separation of entrances—one designated for the funeral procession and another for visitors. Additionally, the mourning rooms have been designed with flexible partitioning, allowing them to be adjusted as needed.
